We’ll be able to do a double “like” or “love” on Netflix very soon, thanks to a new two-thumbs-up icon. It will serve to improve Netflix’s recommendation system, since double “likes” will indicate that a series, movie or program has particularly convinced us.
The streaming platform has not given good news lately, we know that Netflix will increase in price in 2022 in almost the whole world, since it has already taken the step in the United States and the United Kingdom, among other countries. Additionally, Netflix will charge extra for shared accounts, something it’s already testing in some small markets.
It’s now working on a system that will cause Netflix to show more recommendations for double-liked content , which is displayed as an “I love it!” on the interface.
The current “like” will be interpreted as that we want to see more productions of that genre, for example, horror movies, romantic comedies or teen dramas.
With a double “I like” or “I love” the recommendations will be based on various aspects of the content , for example, more series of the leading actors, other films by the same director or the same production company.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to indicate which of these aspects is the one that has led us to award the two thumbs. Since Netflix eliminated 5-star ratings, it has opted for a minimalist system, and for now it seems that it does not want to change it too much.
This possibility will begin to expand gradually from now on, in the apps for Android, iOS, smart TV and the web browser version . After the new section of short films on Netflix, we are facing a smaller change, and something questionable.
It will be necessary to check if the double “I like” or “I love” really improves the recommendations on Netflix , since it aims to fine-tune the proposals of new programs to watch based on very little information.
