A few years ago it was impossible to charge the mobile in less than two hours, not to mention when it was necessary to fully charge the nickel batteries so that they would not suffer from the memory effect that limited their capacity.
This is no longer the case and the loading times are getting shorter every day. In fact, just a few days ago the world’s first mobile phone with a 200 W charge was launched, capable of fully charging its battery in 10 minutes. But is it possible to go further? OPPO believes so, to the point that it will be possible to charge your mobile from 0 to 100% in 1 second .
At some point you will be able to charge your mobile to 100% in 1 second, but it will not be soon
According to the director of the OPPO Charging Technology Laboratory, Edward Tian, it is likely that in the future you will be able to charge your mobile from 0 to 100% in just one second . This challenge seems really crazy because of the power that will be required, but for Tian this is part of his job:
“As a technical engineer in the field of fast charging, for me, my job is to push the boundaries. We will continue to explore until one day phones can be fully charged in one second.”
However, the OPPO engineer assured that we are still not close to reaching those charging speeds, but that does not mean that they will not arrive. Tian points out that there are many challenges to overcome along the way, as increasing the loading speed is not the most difficult part .
The really tricky thing is to provide a good fast charging experience to users while keeping in check: charging temperature, energy density in battery cells, size of charger, battery life and of course , user safety.
Even so, the engineer was quite sure about his approaches and recalled that there are already mobile phones with very powerful fast charging systems . Within the same BBK Electronics (OPPO parent company) is the Realme GT Neo 3, which handles a fast charge of 150 W.
This mobile is capable of going from 0 to 100% charge in just 15 minutes, but from 0 to 50% in just 5 minutes. The latter is irrefutable proof of what Tian mentioned, since if 0 to 50% is 5 minutes, why isn’t 0 to 100% 10 minutes? That said: temperatures, safety, shelf life and more.
Your mobile should not be fully charged or fully discharged for a long time
Along with his previous statements, Edward Tian took the opportunity to talk about good charging habits for your mobile. He pointed out that some users have a habit of keeping the battery at 100% or 0% for a long time and that can be harmful. In fact, he warned that it can be as harmful as using the phone at high temperatures .
Even so, the engineer pointed out that mobile phones currently have ways to mitigate these damages thanks to their programming, so not everything remains under the responsibility of the users. In fact, some can be set to charge up to a certain point or charge as your daily alarm gets closer.
