Instagram goals for 2022: more video, messaging and transparency

We already know some of Instagram’s plans for 2022 , and the social network will focus on four axes: transparency, video, private messages and support for creators . Goals that are not surprising, since they are in line with the line that the company has followed in recent months.

Although some news from Instagram in 2022 have been leaked through the code of the test version of the application, in this case the source is much more reliable: Adam Mosseri, the executive director of Instagram, has revealed his priorities for the next 12 months .

It is not surprising that Instagram considers transparency a priority (or at least affirms it publicly), as the social network ends one of the worst years in terms of reputation. A leaked report revealed that he knew that the app was harmful to teenagers, and he did not mind taking advantage of it to obtain more benefits.

Mosseri claims that users should know how Instagram works , even though its parent company (Facebook, now called Meta) has never been very transparent. Instagram Kids has long been canceled, and will soon be encouraging those who use it intensively to take a break from Instagram.

Looking to 2022, video will become even more important , as Instagram is no longer considered a photography social network for a long time. All videos will be concentrated on Instagram Reels (the format copied to TikTok), although there are still several modalities.

For example, IGTV has disappeared as a brand, although when content is longer than a minute, it is opened in this format.

We will also see increased efforts in Direct’s private messages , which have become an increasingly popular option. Facebook owns WhatsApp and Messenger, but does not want to leave any opportunity to the competition, and Instagram is adding more and more direct communication functions.

In fact, many improvements are planned in Instagram Direct, but the problems with the European Union due to the large market share in the messaging segment have delayed them.

On the other hand, Instagram will help creators to earn money and make a living from the social network , with new monetization systems. Remember that to make money on Instagram you have to look for advertisers or the support of the community on our own, since the company never pays the creators directly.

Unfortunately, it has not been specified how that Instagram help will be for creators, so we will have to wait to know the details.

Of course, the “purposes” of Instagram for 2022 are interesting , although with regard to transparency and support for creators we will have to see if they really translate into measures of sufficient depth.
