Unlike iOS with AirDrop, Android devices don’t have a universal file sharing method . There are many large file sharing apps on Android that people often use to share photos, music, documents, videos, and other files without using the Internet. Google has insisted on making Nearby Share the standard file transfer app, but unfortunately it has not been consolidated. This is why manufacturers keep releasing their own file transfer tools on Android .
On this occasion, we want to introduce you to Dropship by Samsung, an application that has just been launched in the Galaxy Store and that will allow you to share files in an easier way . At the moment, it is only available in South Korea, but it is expected to reach other regions soon. Let’s meet her…
This is Dropship, Samsung’s new file transfer app
The requirements to send files with Dropship are to have Android 13, the One UI 5 customization layer and a Samsung account. That means this app is exclusive to the latest Samsung phones . However, any mobile or device can receive the files sent with Dropship, since the sending method consists of hosting the file to be transferred in the application’s cloud and generating a QR code . This code can be scanned by any device to download the file.
By the way, the app also lets you share the download link in case you want to transfer files to a device without a camera, like PCs. In this sense, its file transfer method is very similar to that of apps like MEGA or Dropbox. However, Dropship has a limit of 5 GB per day . That is, it does not let you share more than 5 GB in files per day.
The problem with the Dropship transfer method is that it depends on an Internet connection, so it can be much slower than AirDrop or Nearby Share (which only use Bluetooth and WiFi networks) depending on your Internet speed. The good thing is that it allows you to easily send files to any device with an Internet connection, even if it’s not a Samsung.
It should be noted that Dropship is part of Samsung’s Good Lock application ecosystem which, for now, is not available in all countries . We will have to wait until it reaches our territory to be able to try this new file transfer tool that, although it is not the best you can use, is a good option to consider.
