Apple is facing one of the most important changes in its history: it must put aside the proprietary charging cable by obligation. The next iPhone will go from Lightning to USB C
For the last couple of years Apple has been using a proprietary charging port called Lightning . It does not matter if you have had an iPhone or an Android, you know which port it is. Now, thanks to the EU, this port will not be able to be on smartphones sold within the territory covered by the EU.
This will force the company to take action worldwide, as it cannot afford to make an exclusive iPhone with USB C just for Europe. All iPhones will change the port and Lightning will be out of the way soon.
It is not a change that Apple makes to its liking, but rather it is imposed. The good news is that even the company’s fans praise this decision to use USB C.
When will Apple change the iPhone charging port?
According to leaks , Apple will change the charging port in 2023 with the iPhone 15 . The iPhone 14, which is due to be presented in September 2022, will arrive with Lightning in all models. It will not be until next year when the company begins to make the change.
The EU has given a deadline to make this change, so Apple is within the established margins . The same will also happen with accessories such as AirPods or Magsafe portable batteries.
Apple will continue to sell Lightning cables for older models, but all devices, smartphones or not, must end up using USB C sooner or later.
