Xiaomi has just presented a concept that is going around the world. The idea starts from a Xiaomi 12S Ultra that integrates a crazy new camera system . It is not something completely new and revolutionary, but it is one of those times that they have taken it to the extreme. It is difficult to know if it will be a real smartphone and manufactured in a chain, so we recommend you take the information with tweezers. Xiaomi wants a mobile with interchangeable lenses !
This concept is the same as that of a reflex camera : it has a body that shoots and objectives that modify the shooting parameters. Depending on which objective fits, you have some parameters or others. Now Xiaomi wants to do this in a smartphone.
Interchangeable lenses and a special sensor
The images speak for themselves. What we see in the concept is a device with a gigantic and very peculiar camera module . The device would have sensors to shoot in normal mode and also an extra sensor, the one seen in the center of the module, to shoot exclusively with the targets .
In this way you could have the advantages of the mobile camera and also a very interesting extra if when you place one of the lenses. The outer ring of the camera module has a series of rails to attach the lenses, so it would be comfortable and there would be no possibility of misplacing it.
These objectives would focus, from what we can see in the images, to improve the zoom section. They are shown large and with different rings to modify photographic parameters . The objectives would be signed by Leica and would be compatible with the controls of the Xiaomi camera app.
With this concept, which is not known if it will be released, Xiaomi expands mobile photography to an almost infinite point. Especially because it goes a step beyond the removable lenses that have been on the market for years.
Of course, the investment would not be economic and, probably, not very smart either. If you buy several of these lenses and intend to change your mobile every 2 years, you will always have to opt for a Xiaomi compatible with them . It seems that a stand-alone camera is still the sanest option.
