We don’t know if the news on WhatsApp is on sale, but the developers of this messaging application are working flat out. Yesterday we discovered that they are creating a registry of people who leave group chats and today there is a new security option.
Can you imagine that WhatsApp alerts you about an attempt to hack your account? It is not necessary to think about it too much, because it will be a reality shortly. This is the new functionality with which WhatsApp will notify you if someone is trying to steal your account .
WhatsApp will tell you who tries to steal your account
Although WhatsApp has had two-step identity verification since 2017, this method is not foolproof: it requires manual activation and someone could have access to your 2FA key generator and use it to steal your account.
Therefore, WhatsApp is adding a new security ring to its application. The discovery was made by the WABetaInfo team, and it consists of an alert that notifies you if someone is trying to open your WhatsApp on another device.
The message will be displayed on your mobile when someone tries to access your account and you will have to manually allow the migration for them to do it. Obviously, you can also reject the migration if it is not you who is doing it, but someone trying to steal from you.
The message that WhatsApp sends is similar to the one in the image that accompanies this section and shows the following information:
- The account (phone number) that you are trying to move to another device.
- The time the migration request was made.
- The device that is requesting access.
This security alert will only be available to users who already have an active WhatsApp account who are trying to migrate to another compatible mobile, tablet or device. If you are registering a new phone number, you will have to complete the classic SMS verification of a lifetime.
When will the new WhatsApp security alert be available?
As with other features in development, this security alert is only available in WhatsApp Beta . It is not known if it will finally be implemented in the standard WhatsApp application, but surely it will, because it is something so important.
