Motorola will launch an incredible rollable smartphone

Motorola continues to take risks and demonstrates it in one of its future launches: a roll-up smartphone with “Felix” as a code name. We know that it is in its early stages of development and will take at least a year to go to market .

The American brand, owned by Lenovo since 2014, is amply demonstrating that it wants to remain at the forefront of mobile manufacturing. A good example of this is its recent mid-range smartphones Moto G 5G (2022) and Moto G Stylus 5G (2022).

But above all, Motorola can boast of having been one of the first manufacturers to launch folding phones on the market, through its Motorola Razr line. And even though rollable smartphones still have a long way to go, they have decided to jump into the pool with “Felix”, which could be considered their most ambitious to date .

There is already a history of this type of cell phone. The Chinese brand OPPO developed a rollable smartphone called X 2021 , and the Korean LG closed its stage in the mobile industry about to launch the LG Rollable . On the other hand, there are also those kinds of folding phones that become giant phones when they expand, as in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.

However, Motorola’s commitment goes further. “Felix” will not be the classic full-size phone that extends sideways (horizontally) as the screen folds, but will instead expand vertically .

To do this, your motorized screen will be wound on a shaft at the bottom and will face backwards. This causes said screen to unfold upwards (vertically) and can gain up to a third of its normal screen .

The result would be a smartphone that is taller, but not wider, unlike the OPPO and LG models mentioned above. Therefore, everything indicates that “Felix” would be a square phone in normal state and in a standard way when unrolled .

It is clear that Motorola’s Razr line continues to believe in the philosophy of small and manageable mobiles , suitable for inserting into almost any pocket. Quite the opposite of what other companies manufacture in the field of folding and rolling devices.

In addition, another of the launches of the Razr line that will see the light in 2022 is the dubbed “Maven”, a third-generation folding phone that will be in the hands of consumers this summer .

However, Motorola’s rollable smartphone is still in development and without a working hardware prototype. If everything goes according to plan and there are no changes along the way, it is estimated that the arrival of “Felix” would not occur for another year, at least .
