Instagram to launch missing child alerts

Unfortunately, in the United States, missing child cases or at least missing child alerts exceed a whopping 250,000 cases a year. To try to reduce this figure, Instagram will begin to launch missing children alerts in its app.

In the United States there is an alert protocol called “AMBER” alert , this type of alert reaches all the mobile phones of citizens and tourists who visit the country in the form of a text message to announce that a minor has disappeared.

Starting today, Instagram will begin sending AMBER alerts to all users who are near the area where the child was abducted or disappeared. This will be of great help, as they can be located much faster or at least more efficiently.

Instagram will send AMBER alerts just like Facebook does

It seems that AMBER alerts were launched a long time ago on Facebook (2015) and thanks to the help of all users, many minors who had disappeared have been found, solely due to the fact that a user shared said alert through Facebook.

The missing child alerts that will be displayed in the Instagram feed when an event occurs near your location, will show the most important information of the child, a photo, a description, the location of the kidnapping or any other type of information that is useful to find him. .

According to a confession from Michelle DeLaune, president and director of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children:

“We know that photos are a critical tool in the search for missing children, and by expanding our reach to Instagram’s audience, we will be able to share photos of missing children with many more people.”

Luckily, AMBER alerts will be available from today , and best of all, they will be launched in the next two weeks in a total of 25 countries : Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Ecuador, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland , Jamaica, Korea, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, South Africa, Taiwan, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

Now, even though Instagram is working to bring missing child alerts to other countries, they may be the very countries where that kind of information is classified or reserved for the authorities. However, it is a great step to be able to reduce figures that exceed the limits.
