Google will merge Meet and Duo into a single app

Google Meet se fusionara con Google Duo

The Google company announced that it will carry out a merger between two of its communication services : Google Duo and Google Meet. This project will aim to offer a single platform for video calls and video conferences.

Let us remember that Duo reached all mobile devices in 2016 under the premise of “being the new Google video call app” . Two years later, Google launched Meet, a platform that aimed to offer a space for business accounts.

Google wants to unify its audience

Google Meet absorvera Google Duo

If we go back to the month of April of the year 2020, we can discover that Google Meet stopped being specifically aimed at professionals , this was due to the explosion that Zoom had in terms of popularity.

In order to compete with the aforementioned platform, Google opened its video conferencing service to all users , thus offering the possibility of creating rooms with up to 100 participants and no time limit.

Despite the fact that in recent months Google has provided Duo with new functions and features, they discovered that something was wrong, since they were segmenting an audience that could well use the same platform to make video calls and video conferences.

Taking the latter into account, the North American company confirmed that within the next few weeks it will integrate all Duo functions into the Meet app . Likewise, the Duo name will disappear, leaving Google Meet as the only free service that will offer video calls and video conferences.

What news will there be because of this merger?

Novedades en la fusion de Meet y Duo

Those people who have been using Google Meet will not find so many new features. Instead, users who only used Google Duo, will be able to access all the functions of Meet , how which ones? Like the ones mentioned below:

  • Personalization of virtual backgrounds in calls and meetings.
  • Scheduling of video calls/video conferences.
  • Chat in real time.
  • Subtitle integration.
  • Possibility of making video calls with up to 100 people at the same time.
  • Integration with tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Messages and Google Assistant.

With nothing more to add, the date on which the respective merger will take place has not yet been reported . Similarly, users will have to do absolutely nothing to move their data from Duo to Meet.
