The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be brutal! ARM presents its new cores and GPU with Ray Tracing

Nucleos y grafica del Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 todos los detalles revelados

Although when we think of mobile processor manufacturers names like Qualcomm, MediaTek or Unisoc come to mind, there is a very important company behind the design of these SoCs: ARM. The British firm is in charge of creating the architecture, cores and graphics that are used in the most popular chipsets on the market.

Well, after making the leap to ARMv9 early last year, its first 64-bit-only architecture , the time has come to introduce the second generation of graphics and cores based on that architecture.

ARM has officially announced on its blog the new Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710, Cortex-A510 that come with much more power and three new graphics cards ( Immortalis-G715, Mali-G715 and Mali-G615 ) among which is the first in supporting Ray Tracing technology. Next, we tell you all the details of the new ARM.

ARM introduces the new Cortex-X3, Cortex-A715 and Cortex-A510 that take performance to another level

It was recently leaked that the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would arrive with a renewed CPU configuration betting on 4 clusters (instead of the typical distribution of 3 core groups). Well, now we know that its main cluster will feature the new Cortex-X3 that ARM has just officially introduced. This new core comes with a 25% performance improvement compared to its predecessor (Cortex-X2).

ARM has also revealed the successor to the high-performance Cortex-A710 that brings the SD 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000. It is the new Cortex-A715 , a core that, although it offers 5% more performance, stands out for optimizing consumption energy of future processors that mount it, since it improves energy efficiency by 20% .

The third and final kernel introduced by ARM is the Cortex-A510 update. This processing unit arrives with the same name, 5% more energy efficiency and no performance improvements over last year’s version.

Immortalis-G715 GPU, the first graphics card to offer Ray Tracing that will debut in SD 8 Gen 2

Without a doubt, the most interesting thing about ARM’s announcement was the presentation of its first graphics card to provide hardware-based Ray Tracing. This is the new Immortalis-G715 GPU, a premium graphics that will probably be the most attractive feature of the future Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Why? Well, because in addition to offering a 15% improvement in performance, it also supports this technology that renders the path of light in real time to achieve more realistic graphics . Finally, the new Mali-G715 and Mali G615 were also announced, two GPUs that bring as their main novelty the incorporation of Variable Rate Shading technology, which also has the Immortalis-G715 graphics.

This function offers higher performance when processing graphic data by reducing power consumption , which means that in the next Android mobile processors we will have more powerful graphics at the expense of better energy efficiency.

And you… What do you think of these improvements that bring the new ARM?
