The MediaTek Genio 700 wants to bring IoT devices to the masses

MediaTek Genio 700 caracteristicas lanzamiento

MediaTek is the company that sells the most mobile SoCs in the world, but its business goes much further. The Chinese manufacturer also offers chips for networks, smart home devices, Chromebooks, cars and even IoT (Internet of Things).

In this last group is the SoC that they just presented at CES 2023, as it is designed to adapt to any device that you want to communicate with others. This is the new MediaTek Genio 700: an IoT chip with support for two screens and designed for use in the industrial, consumer and even DIY sectors.

All the specifications of the MediaTek Genio 700

A chip that prioritizes consumption and performance in AI, but does not neglect other features

MediaTek Genio 700 especificaciones tecnicas y aplicaciones

If you stopped to look at the table of technical specifications in the previous section, you must have noticed something: the MediaTek Genio 700 looks a lot like any mobile chip . However, the differences are in the small details.

An example of this? While mobile chips aim for raw performance in multimedia and artificial intelligence for general applications, in IoT it is different. In the latter, the following is sought: high-performance artificial intelligence (especially Edge-AI) , easy programming, good security and ultra-low consumption.

The MediaTek Genio 700 has all that, but with the advantage of not neglecting the multimedia section. Tests? We refer to its key characteristics:

  • Low consumption : It is manufactured in 6 NM and 6 of its 8 cores are Cortex-A55 running at 2 GHz. The other 2 are high-performance Cortex-A78 up to 2.2 GHz.
  • Multimedia : thanks to its Mali-G57 MC3 GPU it is capable of managing up to two screens simultaneously with resolutions up to 4K @ 60 Hz. It is also compatible with cameras up to 32 MP.
  • Artificial intelligence : It has a multi-core accelerator for AI with a power of 4 TOPS, especially dedicated to deep learning (Deep Learning), neural networks and machine vision (AR and VR) apps.
  • Programming : it is compatible with Android, Yocto Linux and Ubuntu, three OS that facilitate the development and implementation of edge apps, widely used in IoT.
  • Security and reliability : through industrial and business certifications such as ARM SystemReady and ARM PSA.

By the way, this chip also has numerous physical and wireless connectivity options: USB 3.0, PCI-Express, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 6 and even 5G networks.

When will the MediaTek Genio 700 be available and what can it be used for?

According to MediaTek itself, the Genio 700 is a multifunctional chip designed for different markets: it can be used industrially, but also in smart commercial devices and in home projects where you decide how to implement it. Taking the latter into account, it will most likely be economical.

Finally, the company reported that its new SoC for the Internet of Things will be available throughout Q1 2023 , although it did not specify an exact date.
