A few months ago the Realme Pad was presented, the company’s first tablet that focused on three things: large format, good specifications for the mid-range and a contained price. Since then, no more was known about Realme’s plans in the world of tablets, until now.
A leak on Twitter and a Philippine media ( Hungry Geeks ) ensures that Realme is ready to launch its next tablet . However, it will not be the Realme Pad 2, but a version in compact format called Realme Pad Mini. In addition, between both sources they managed to filter the images that you will find in this article, as well as many of its specifications:
- 8.7-inch IPS screen with HD+ resolution (1340 x 800 pixels).
- Unisoc Tiger T616 octa -core processor with Mali-G57 MP1 graphics.
- 3 / 4 GB of RAM and 32 / 64 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 1 TB with microSD).
- 6400mAh battery with 18W fast charge.
- 4G LTE connectivity in both models (we do not know if there will be WiFi-only versions).
- Thickness of 7.6 mm and a weight of 372 grams.
If the above information is true, Realme would continue to target the mid-range with this new tablet, so the price should not be too high. What do we know about its release ? There is no official date confirmed, but rumors suggest that the announcement will take place on April 4 in the Philippines .
Realme wants to break Apple’s hegemony in the small tablet market
Although the tablet market is quite large, the small form factor options are very limited. We are talking about tablets with screens of 9 inches or less , a niche in which Apple totally dominates with its iPad Mini. Besides, it is a sector in which the competition is basically restricted to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, the Lenovo Tab M8 and a lot of Chinese tablets that are copies of each other.
At some point , this type of device was highly demanded by users (as in the days of the mythical Google Nexus 7). However, they were losing strength as mobile phones increased in size, making tablets of 10 inches or more make more sense.
Realme wants to give them a second chance and will take advantage of two variables for this: the first, that its main contender points to the high-end range and costs more than €500, while Realme will bet on the mid-range and a reduced price; the second, if the Realme Pad Mini hits hard, it will become the model that sets the standard, since it is a practically abandoned market.
As it is not yet for sale and we do not know the final price either , we cannot assure anything about the success of the Realme Pad Mini. However, if Realme manages to revive this niche, it will surely go all out.
