The biggest change to WhatsApp in its history arrives: compatibility with other apps

If you read this it means that you have a smartphone and if you have a smartphone it means that, most likely, you use WhatsApp. Today we can tell you about one of the biggest changes to WhatsApp that could be made in its history as a messaging application. It is an imposition and not something that was born from the company’s offices. The European Union wants WhatsApp to be able to interact with other smaller messaging apps . This could change the way you use WhatsApp !

WhatsApp should receive and send messages to other apps

The European Union (EU from now on) has a bill called DMA or Digital Markets Law. With it, he intends to change many of the current operations of the technological giants. His latest proposal is that WhatsApp be an app open to interaction with other messaging apps.

The EU’s intention is for WhatsApp to be able to send and receive content from other smaller messaging apps . Other giants like Facebook Messenger or Telegram also come into this bag, of course.

In other words, large applications should be able to interact with smaller ones to obtain a fairer market and not follow the line of monopolies. At this time, if you want to write to a person, you will most likely have to download WhatsApp or Telegram , since the rest of the apps are unknown to most.

A rule that could become law

Right now it is just a proposal on the table. If approved, it will become a Law and the companies that operate in the European territory must follow its guidelines. We already told you that you should not dream of being able to talk between WhatsApp and Telegram .

The proposal welcomes all small applications that have less than 45 million active users per month or 10,000 corporate users per year. This means that only some very little known apps would fall within the supposed law.

If the law is not complied with, companies could face fines of 10% of their annual turnover , so it is possible that, if it is approved, we will see rapid movements by giants such as WhatsApp, Facebook or Telegram .

Of course, all these guidelines would only affect European soil and not other parts of the world. If approved, WhatsApp and the rest would only be required to take these measures when users connect from somewhere in the European Union, the rest of the world would be exempt.

How does this possible WhatsApp change affect you?

The reality is that this change only has one weak point for the user: the privacy and security of the applications could be compromised . The EU has already communicated that it is possible to make the changes without compromising security, something with which we disagree.

WhatsApp or other apps would be forced to share and change their privacy policies, so there is more chance of cracking the whole system. Beyond this detail, the user will only win, since he will have more chances to communicate without having to download other lesser-known apps. What do you think?
