Instagram recently debuted a new feature to create custom 3D avatars that users can use in their Stories. Well, Meta has decided to expand this function to the rest of its platforms, so now they have launched new 3D avatars for Instagram, Facebook and Messenger with which you can make stickers, use them as a profile picture or make posts.
But what’s new about this isn’t that the 3D avatar will be supported on all three Meta platforms. The interesting thing is that this avatar can also be used in virtual and augmented reality environments . You know what this means? Exactly, soon you will be able to design the avatar that you will use in the Facebook metaverse.
Facebook already has 3D avatars for you to use in the metaverse
The era of the metaverse has already begun and although for now this virtual world does not exist, there are many companies that are investing in this project. Meta is one of them and that is why they have now announced the arrival of new avatars on Instagram and Facebook. But they will not only be usable in these social networks, since said avatars also have compatibility with the virtual reality of Oculus in which the metaverse of Facebook will probably be built.
To enhance this feature, the company has added a large number of customization options for avatars, from new face designs to more skin tones, clothes, bodies, hairstyles , etc. They have even incorporated options that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, such as wheelchairs and cochlear implants. Also, the 3D design of the avatars has been optimized as you can see in the image above.
When will I be able to use these 3D avatars on Instagram and Facebook?
At the moment, these new optimized 3D avatars for Facebook and Instagram are only available in Canada, the United States and Mexico , so we will have to wait to create the 3D avatar that we will use in the metaverse. It is likely that in the coming months Meta will announce the arrival of this feature in the rest of the world.
