Samsung prepares new sensors to improve the video quality of mobile phones

A challenge that all mobile manufacturers face is the quality of video recording. It is not the same as taking a photo in high resolution, since the resources required to achieve something similar are too high . It also doesn’t mean that it’s an impossible task to achieve better quality, and Samsung is betting new technology to achieve it.

The announcements of the companies for the following years regarding camera sensors have not been long in coming. First it became known about LG and its optical zoom module with up to 9 magnifications. Now, the other large South Korean company joins the list of novelties by showing an alternative that they have developed to give video recordings from their mobile phones a new level.

This is how Samsung intends to achieve high-quality video recordings from mobile phones

The route that Samsung chose is to improve the sensitivity of light, in addition to the luminance range, the dynamic, as well as depth detection . All this will give the videos higher quality without consuming many resources on the mobile.

What Samsung has announced is a new property within its ISOCELL sensors for mobile cameras. The company calls it Nano-Photonics Color Routing and its function is, simply put, to improve light sensitivity by using light from nearby pixels captured by the camera at an extreme level .

As for the improvement of its dynamic range, they plan to achieve it by launching camera sensors with 16-bit HDR . Until now, the company had used these types of 12-bit sensors. Apparently, the increase will be in favor of better video quality with a much wider dynamic range.

The icing on the cake is the next improvement for videos with background blur

In addition to all of the above, Samsung will employ time-of-flight depth sensors with integrated ISP . The change will directly affect portrait videos (with background blur effect), as they can be recorded without consuming as much energy from the mobile. This is thanks to the fact that when processing the depth in such cases, it will be done from the sensor itself.

The result will be a huge improvement in the quality of these particular videos, regardless of whether they are shot in low light or focusing on narrow subjects . With all these new features integrated in the future, perhaps it will not be necessary to resort to tricks to record quality videos on networks like TikTok or personally.

This technology is planned to arrive together with the new ISOCELL sensors in their mobiles between 2023 and 2024 .
