Picmi is the first public app to take taxis in the city of Barcelona
The service stems from the AMB’s interest in launching an alternative to private taxi apps . The idea of an app like Picmi came about in 2016. After a long wait, the service has finally been officially announced.
The project has been created thanks to the union of the AMB , the Institut Metropolità del Taxi (IMT) and Nexus Geogràfics. This last company is in charge of developing the app. For this, Nexus already has a budget of more than 150 thousand euros.
And what does the Picmi service consist of? Well, the app seeks to digitize freehand taxis. And it is that all licensed taxis in Barcelona (that are not in the private apps) must use Picmi to find customers. Therefore, Picmi will have 10,500 taxis available for the people of Barcelona .
With the app you can request a car and choose the route you want to take (as you do in Uber). Picmi will calculate how much you have to pay for the service. For now, the app will not have driver reservations.
It should be clarified that the Picmi app is not yet available in the Play Store. According to the AMP, the service will launch in the summer of 2022 . Now, part of the Picmi service can now be used with the AMB Mobilitat application. Picmi is in the mobility service of the AMB as an extra function.
For this reason, below you will see two boxes for you to download AMB Mobilitat on your Android or iPhone . The app barely weighs about 7 MB. Therefore, you will not need to free up storage space on your Android to install the service.
