Instagram Reels increases the duration to 90 seconds and more news

Starting today, Instagram Reels is increasing the length of videos to 90 seconds , and we’re sure to see these new longer clips soon. In addition, Instagram has incorporated new features to create more complete Reels, including stickers, more sound effects and templates .

Instagram is clearly committed to video to continue growing , and its Reels have become very popular, despite copying the TikTok format. Although the idea is that they are very short clips, now the maximum duration increases to 90 seconds (minute and a half) compared to the previous 60 seconds.

In addition, a series of improvements have been added to create Reels that can now be used:

  1. Survey, quiz, and emoji slider stickers added to Reels
  2. New free library of sound effects.
  3. It is possible to import the audio of videos saved on the mobile.
  4. Templates to create Reels using a previous one as a base.
  5. Up to 90 seconds of maximum duration of the Reels.

Since the copyright of music on Instagram is complex, the social network tries to compensate with a library of sound effects that adapt to the different Reels: claps, bells, drums, crickets… and emotions such as an evil laugh or a “plot twist”.

In addition, the possibility of extracting the audio from a video that we have saved on the mobile and using it in a new Reel is very useful.

The arrival of the first stickers from Stories to Reels is not a surprise, and they will surely work very well, as it is a feature that TikTok does not have.

The most interesting thing for creators is the new template system, especially since it is common to copy ideas from previous Reels. By using it, the sound and overlays of the original are kept , and we only have to record the new video, so less time is wasted on editing.

The new Reels with a duration of 90 seconds give more possibilities , and aim to increase the time we spend on Instagram, but it will be necessary to see if users are interested in these less immediate videos.
