It’s been quite a while since the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 surpassed their years of support from Samsung and stopped receiving updates. However, some users may still use them and today they are in for a very curious surprise.
Out of nowhere and without prior notice, Samsung decided to release an update to its 2016 and 2017 flagships. Yes, you’re reading that right, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 received an update in the middle of 2022 , but don’t expect too much from it. .
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 are updated to improve GPS stability
Thanks to a note published on the Dutch Galaxy Club website, we learned that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 received an update. Specifically, it is a patch that improves the GPS stability of these two phones, as well as their higher versions.
In the case of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the package is the G93*FXXU8EVG3, which weighs 31 MB. Meanwhile, the update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ is the G95*FXXUCDVG4 , which weighs in at 420 MB. We don’t know why there is such a big difference in the size of the two packages if they fix a similar issue, but that’s how they came out.
The downloaded package does not include security patches, new features, nor does it upgrade the Android version to a newer one. Therefore, it is likely that you have been a little disappointed when reading this article, but it is what it is. However, it is a curious (and great) fact that Samsung decided to solve a problem in such old mobiles.
