After a long wait, at the end from Instagram the chronological feed or timeline is retrieved for users who prefer it. That is, the possibility of seeing the most recent photos and videos first in temporal order, instead of Instagram deciding which are more relevant.
In addition, we also have the option to first see the photos and videos of the profiles that we mark as favorites . Instagram finally gives this choice to those who did not agree that its algorithm decided what was the most important thing to leave before the rest.
In any case, the timeline ordered by the algorithm will remain active by default , and every time we want to enter the chronological version we will have to check that option. Instagram, at least for now, does not allow the system to be permanently changed.
These are the three types of feed order that Instagram will use:
- Followed : it is the new chronological feed or timeline, the publications of all the accounts that we follow will be shown in a strictly temporal order, starting with the most current.
- Favorites : the publications of the accounts that we mark as favorites (up to a maximum of 50) will appear, also in chronological order.
- Home : is the current system where an algorithm decides which content to show first based on how similar it thinks it is to us.
By clicking on the Instagram logo at the top left we can change the type of order, always from the main tab:
Let’s remember that there is already a list of “best friends” on Instagram to decide who can see our Stories. The list of favorites is different, it is used to order the timeline, and the only thing they have in common is that they do not notify the added contacts that we have done so.
This new feature is already starting to roll out to users, and will be rolled out gradually. It is always a good idea to update Instagram if we want to receive it as soon as possible.
