Instagram Stories is adding a feature you'll hate

The next novelty of Instagram will be loved and hated in equal parts, as it will soon allow us to respond to Stories using voice notes . Something very comfortable for the one who sends them, but that can annoy the one who receives them.

Voice notes, also called audio notes, allow us to send long messages much faster than writing. Private Instagram Direct messages have long supported voice notes, but in Stories they will be a controversial novelty.

And it is that sometimes we receive voice notes in situations in which we cannot listen to them with high volume, nor do we have headphones at hand. Not to mention that Stories are a very short format, and voice notes could be longer than the content they are intended to respond to.

For now, this is a function that Instagram develops internally. From Twitter we can see its future appearance, thanks to Alessandro Paluzzi, an engineer who has already revealed many launches before they were made by investigating the internal code of the apps.

Next to the text box to respond to the Stories , a microphone icon will be added that will allow us to send a voice note . Relatively recently, Instagram has given the option to “like” Stories, and in a while we may receive another novelty.

Unfortunately, there is no known release date , and we may not even see this possibility. Sometimes Instagram experiments remain internal tests, although most do end up in the main application.

Months ago we learned that WhatsApp is working on transcribing audio to text, and it would also be a useful technology on Instagram, although for now it does not seem ready to launch on either of the two platforms.

In any case, responding with voice notes to Stories would change the Instagram experience a lot , and not everyone will like it. Let’s hope that the company, before enabling them in a general way, thoroughly analyzes if it really is an improvement in the social network, or is it going to worsen the experience.
