Do you receive many emails with advertisements in your Gmail account lately? It is something that is happening because Google is increasing the frequency of advertising on its service . It is no longer enough for them to position them at the top of your tray, now they sneak in the middle of the list and they are becoming annoying.

Hide ads in your Gmail inbox by following these steps
Although we’ll talk a bit about the growth of advertising in Gmail in the next section, we’ll give you one thing ahead of time: most emails with ads are saved in the “Promotions” tab of Gmail, although sometimes they sneak into “Social” and “Notifications”.
However, all of these tabs are linked by default to your inbox within Gmail. Thus, even if the emails with announcements are labeled differently, they will still appear in your main list.
Which is the solution then? As you can imagine, unlink these additional tabs from your inbox, something that is easily possible in the Gmail app for Android by disabling mailbox filtering . What you should do is the following:
- Open the Gmail app on your mobile.
- Click on the icon of the three horizontal lines to open the side menu .
- Tap on “Settings / Configuration” .
- Choose the Google account you want to modify .
- Go to “Inbox Categories” .
- Uncheck all the options that appear in the menu.
By doing this, Gmail won’t integrate additional inboxes with your main inbox, saving you from seeing all the advertising they send. It is an easy trick to apply and very effective, although it could stop working in the future if Google decides to unify all the trays in a mandatory way. Be careful, here we show you how to do it on Android, but it also works in the web version of Gmail or in the iOS app, only the first steps change a little.

If you have ever wondered how Google makes money if most of its services are free, the answer lies in three things: licenses, commissions and advertising , but especially the latter.
Google makes a lot of money through Google Ads on websites and apps, promoting apps in the Android Play Store, (very subtle) ads in its search engine and more. Sponsored links are Google’s gold mine and are present in almost all its services, although sometimes they are more visible in some than in others.
Gmail does not escape this reality, although Google for a long time kept advertising at bay in its email service. This is no longer the case, because G mail every day has more emails with ads endorsed by Google itself.

We don’t know how far Google intends to go with this new movement, but let’s hope they don’t go too far and end up filling our emails with advertising. If that were to happen, you can always opt for other alternatives to Gmail, but it is no secret that many of us will be reluctant to this change.
Luckily, and as we explained before, these sponsored emails appear mostly in the “Promotions” tab. Thus, the cure against them is to divide this tray from the rest of your mailboxes within Gmail, although that could change later.
