Control your Instagram feed with these options: Favorites and Follows

The way you use Instagram is changing. If from now on you notice some changes in the main feed of your Instagram, do not worry. This is the latest update of the application that has added a new version of the feed, which resumes the operation that Instagram abandoned in 2016 . That is, the chronological feed returns and it’s time to say goodbye to the algorithm that ordered the publications according to what it thought was most outstanding for you.

But the real novelty of this new feed is the Favorites and Follows options that allow you to have more control over the posts that appear on the main screen. If you don’t know what exactly these options do or even where they are, keep reading, because we’ll explain soon.

Favorites and Followed, the two options to control what you see on Instagram

On the Instagram home screen, you can now tap on the Instagram logo in the top left to display a menu of options where you can choose the posts you want to see in your feed . At the moment, the menu only offers you these two options:

  • Favorites – Shows you the latest posts from a list of specific accounts you mark as favorites (can be up to 50). In addition, in this feed you will see content from accounts related to your favorite accounts, even if they do not follow each other. The order of the publications will be chronological.
  • Followed – Shows you the posts of everyone you follow. It’s like the algorithmic feed you’ve been using until now, but in chronological order.

As you can see, the difference is that Favorites is like a filter that only shows you the posts from your favorite accounts (and other related ones), while with Followed you will see the content of all the accounts you follow. The common point between both options is the chronological order . Instagram no longer uses algorithms to show you an order from most to least featured. You’ll see the most recent posts at the top and the oldest at the bottom.

So, if you wanted to prevent social media AI from taking over your digital life, Instagram has already done you a favor . But tell us… do you like the new Instagram feed or do you prefer the old one?
