What are Communities and what are they for?

Que son las Comunidades de WhatsApp

Communities are nothing more than a WhatsApp group that allows you to have sub-groups within it . It is a feature very similar to Telegram channels, since they are groups of contacts that offer administrators more tools to manage them.

Thus, Communities represent a better option (compared to traditional groups) to manage user associations that can be grouped into thematic subsets . For example, schools, neighborhoods, businesses, etc. In this way, the owner of a commercial premises can create a WhatsApp Community to add all their employees and distribute them internally in subgroups depending on their job titles.

How do the Communities work?

Para que sirven las Comunidades de whatsapp

The WhatsApp beta testers have tested the Communities and thanks to this we already know some of the most important features of this novelty that comes to the messaging platform. This is how it has been revealed that WhatsApp Communities will work as follows:

  • The Communities may have a maximum of 10 subgroups each.
  • Subgroups can have up to 512 members each.
  • There will be a subgroup called Announcements within all Communities. This can be used by the administrator to send a mass message that all members of the Community will receive.
  • Community members can choose the subgroups they want to belong to and leave them without leaving the Community.
  • The administrator can manage user access to subgroups and kick members out of subgroups.

When will Communities officially arrive on WhatsApp?

At the moment, WhatsApp has not yet announced the official date on which the Communities will be available to all users . However, by enabling this feature for beta testers, it can be presumed that the feature is already in its final phase of testing. For this reason, we recommend that you keep your WhatsApp app updated, since it is likely that the Communities will not be long in coming.
