Facebook launches Reels worldwide

Facebook Reels can now be seen worldwide , the company considers that its short video format is ready for its big premiere. Those who access Facebook from Android and iOS will have a Reels section with very diverse video clips.

Facebook makes this decision after the success of Instagram Reels, which we remember copy short TikTok videos almost identically. The global launch in more than 150 countries was preceded by a series of tests in the United States with a small audience, which have gone well.

Reels can be up to 60 seconds long , and are designed for mobile, so videos use a vertical format by default. They include a Remix feature to reuse content from other users, something similar to doing a duet on TikTok.

As in every new release, Facebook will give great visibility to Reels within the interface. In the main timeline they will appear as suggestions, we can find them in the Watch section and contacts have the option of uploading Reels to Stories.

The company is working on improvements to the Reels editor, including the ability to publish them on Facebook and Instagram at the same time , saving intermediate steps.

In the Reels there will be ads, and the creators will earn a percentage of the advertising , a way to encourage content to be of higher quality. At the moment, you can only generate income if you live in Mexico, the US or Canada, but from March 2022 new countries will be added.

The Reels should already start to appear in the Android and iOS apps , if not, we should update Facebook to receive them as soon as possible, although sometimes these deployments take a while to reach everyone.

Of course, the arrival of the Reels on Facebook demonstrates the success of the TikTok format , and also that the social network is no longer the first option to launch news, since its audience has an increasingly larger average age compared to Instagram.
