Your COVID certificate will lose validity if you do not take the 3rd dose in 270 days

We recently taught you how to validate a COVID certificate in less than 1 minute, but now there is something new about it that you should know about. The European Commission has established a new COVID passport validity limit: 9 months or 270 days from the last dose you took . If that time passes and you have not received the third dose, you automatically lose the advantages of having a valid COVID certificate.

With this new measure, which will come into force as of next year, the European Union supports the importance of a third dose to stop the new wave of infections caused by the omicron variant. So for your health, for everyone’s health, and for your free movement, you need to get the booster dose.

The EU gives you up to 9 months to get the third dose, if not, your COVID certificate will expire

It is worth noting that this new COVID certificate expiration date is only for those who have not received the third dose . If you already got the new booster dose, you don’t have to worry: your COVID passport will not expire in the near future (for now).

Keep in mind that COVID is still being studied and we do not know what the future will bring with this disease. It is possible that new variants will emerge that warrant more doses . But at the moment, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control only recommends one more booster dose 6 months after the last one received from the first vaccination cycle.

If you do not take the third dose after those 6 recommended months, the European Commission grants you an extra 3 months to do it until your COVID certificate is not valid. And do not look for the validity date of your certificate, it will not have it . The only thing that will be updated are the applications to check COVID certificates, which will now check if you have three doses or the date of your second dose to tell you if it is still valid.

This new regulation will enter into force on February 1, 2022 for all countries of the European Union (including Spain).
