You can now buy Ray-Ban Stories: glasses with a camera for Instagram and Facebook

Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses are now available in Spain, designed together with Meta to take photos and record videos easily, which we can upload to Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp.

The Ray-Ban Stories take the concept of the Snapchat Spectacles glasses, but adapt them to a fairly standard design glasses. The frame, especially on the temples, is a bit thicker to house the two 5 MP cameras and the battery, but the whole thing doesn’t have a tech look at all.

You can take photos and record videos of up to 60 seconds , which using the Facebook View app are easily uploaded to the company’s apps. Within the Ray-Ban Stories themselves we have 4 GB of internal storage .

Every time the cameras are activated, an LED lights up , something that tries to reduce the risk of them being used as “spy glasses” to record people without their consent.

The glasses include speakers and microphones , so they serve as headphones to listen to music or take calls. They have touch control on the pin and voice control in English , one of their big problems for the launch in Spain.

Ray-Ban Stories only understand commands in English to take photos or videos, control music, communicate with the Facebook voice assistant or use Messenger.

These are the main technical characteristics of smart glasses:

  1. Dual 5 MP camera
  2. They take photos and videos up to 60 s.
  3. 4 GB of internal memory.
  4. Voice and touch control on the temple.
  5. 2 speakers and 3 microphones.
  6. Connectivity by WiFi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0.
  7. 3 hours of autonomy, charging through the case.
  8. Compatible with Android 8.1, iOS 13 and above.

The limited autonomy is a problem with Ray-Ban Stories, although it would not be normal to use smart glasses too intensively.

Ray-Ban Stories are sold in three frame designs (Round, Meteor, Wayfarer and larger Wayfarer L), with various lens color options for each, totaling 28 possible combinations.

They can also be ordered with graduated lenses if we need them , or with lenses that darken depending on the ambient light.

The price starts at 299 euros in Spain , and goes up in certain models, or if we add special crystals. They are for sale on the Ray-Ban website, and will also reach other Spanish stores.

Of course, the Ray-Ban Stories are curious smart glasses , focused only on multimedia. In the end, futuristic designs like Oppo Air Glass are still a long way from becoming popular, and Facebook is targeting Instagram fans to make its foray into this segment.
