WhatsApp for iOS recovers this function at the request of users

The latest test version of WhatsApp for iOS restores access to the gallery in the photo camera , a very useful function that users feared would disappear. WhatsApp has rectified, and iPhone users will still be able to send photos from the camera roll with this handy shortcut bar.

Those who have WhatsApp Beta installed on iOS had noticed a change for the worse with the version. WhatsApp’s internal camera interface no longer displayed thumbnails of the latest gallery photos above the shoot button, to send them with just a tap.

In return, an icon appeared in the lower left corner that gave access to the gallery , with a thumbnail of the last photo taken. A very similar layout to the one Instagram uses, but requires more steps to send recent images.

This is the redesign that WhatsApp had proposed and has now discarded:

The 22.5.0.71 update has been reversed, it is to be imagined that users have not considered the WhatsApp redesign successful . Although when we open the camera we intend to send a new photo that we are going to take, on many occasions we end up choosing an image that was already in the gallery.

The bar above the shutter button gives us quick access to the most recent photos , even allowing us to swipe left to see more options. Although it might make sense to bring the look of the internal camera closer to that of Instagram, in this case it would be a clear step backwards in the user experience.

Of course, it is good news that WhatsApp keeps the gallery bar in the internal camera , since this function is used much more than it might seem at first. The company does not stop testing and tweaking the interface, but in this case it has not been successful.
