Vivo X Fold and X Note: the folding and the 7-inch phablet point to the most premium range

The foldable Vivo X Fold and the flagship mobile Vivo X Note are now official, targeting the most premium segment of the smartphone market. They are not the first high-end of the brand, but they do make it very clear that Vivo wants to compete directly among the greats in the smartphone sector.

Recently, the striking Vivo V23 5G with its dual selfie camera arrived in Spain, and now in China its two most advanced proposals are being released, which we still do not know if they will reach the rest of the markets.

Vivo wants a gap in all segments, and foldables have great growth potential in the coming years, so we look to delve into these new models.

Vivo X Fold

The new Vivo X Fold offers an 8-inch folding internal screen , a 2K OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, in a 4:3.5 ratio more square than usual. The external screen is 6.53 inches , also an OLED FH + at 120 Hz, in a widescreen ratio of 21: 9.

An unexpected detail is that there is a fingerprint sensor hidden under each screen , also a physical switch on the side for sound modes and a hinge that can withstand up to 300,000 folds, which should give it at least 10 years of durability.

The processor at the helm is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SPU , a version customized by Qualcomm for Vivo with security improvements. It includes 12 GB of RAM and versions with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage .

The X Fold takes care of photography, and includes Zeiss lenses in the rear cameras to improve the results of the captures. These are the cameras of the Vivo X Fold:

  1. 50 MP f/1.75: main with OIS optical stabilization, Samsung GN5 sensor.
  2. 48 MP f/2.2: ultra wide angle.
  3. 12 MP: portrait sensor.
  4. 5 MP: telephoto lens with x5 optical zoom.

Regarding selfies, the front camera is 16 MP and is embedded in a hole in the screen.

Inside the X Fold we have a 4,600 mAh battery , a figure that is only correct, which charges at 66 W by cable and 50 W wirelessly , which allows us to have the mobile at 100% in just 37 minutes.

The operating system is Android 12 , as always with the Funtouch OS layer that Vivo uses on its smartphones.

The Vivo X Fold has been announced for China first , on sale from April 22, 2022. We know the prices in the Chinese market, but not in the rest of the world:

  1. 12 GB + 256 GB for 8,999 yuan (about 1,300 euros / 1,400 dollars in exchange).
  2. 12 GB + 512 GB for 9,999 yuan (about 1,440 euros / 1,570 dollars in exchange).

The new Vivo X Note stands out for its huge 7-inch QHD+ screen (3,080 x 1,440 px), an OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, brightness of up to 1,500 nits and a large embedded fingerprint sensor.

We are talking about a direct rival for smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Oppo Find X5 Pro or the iPhone 13 Pro Max, due to size and specifications. It uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.

Again we find Zeiss lenses on the rear cameras , with the following configuration:

  1. 50 MP: main with OIS optical stabilization, Samsung GN1 sensor.
  2. 48 MP: ultra wide angle.
  3. 12 MP: portrait sensor.
  4. 8 MP: telephoto lens with x5 optical zoom.

This is complemented by an 8 MP selfie camera on the front.

The Vivo X Note has a 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging, reaches 50 W wireless and 8 W wired , which means getting full capacity in just 32 minutes.

Other notable details are the IP68 water resistance , the side switch for the sound modes and the use of Android 12 with the Funtouch OS 12 layer for the software section.

The new X Note goes on sale on April 15, 2022 for China, we will have to wait for the details in the rest of the countries, but we can get a rough idea of future prices:

  1. 8 GB + 256 GB for 5,999 yuan (about 860 euros / 940 dollars in exchange).
  2. 12 GB + 256 GB for 6,499 yuan (about 940 euros / 1,000 dollars in exchange).
  3. 12 GB + 512 GB for 6,999 yuan (about 1,010 euros / 1,100 dollars in exchange).

Of course, the Vivo X Fold and X Note are powerful and leading phones , which show that the manufacturer wants to compete at the top. If recently the Oppo Find N was the first folding mobile of the BBK group, now it’s Vivo’s turn, and rumors suggest that OnePlus will be the next.
