Decentralized finance platform Qubit Finance has lost just over $80 million in cryptocurrency after suffering a hack . The company acknowledged this security incident and has asked the attacker to return all the funds he stole , although for the moment, they have not received any type of response.
The official report published by Qubit Finance has made it clear that the attacker was able to seize more than 206 thousand Binance Coins last Thursday, how did he do it? Well, by exploiting a vulnerability within the code of one of its smart contracts that run on the Ethereum Blockchain.
How was the Qubit Finance robbery carried out?
Thanks to the analysis carried out by CertiK, a Blockchain-type security company, it has become known how the attack on Qubit Finance was carried out : “What the hacker did was take advantage of an error in the Qubit Finance code. This little gateway allowed him to enter data from the malicious guy so he could withdraw tokens on Binance Smart Chain without depositing ethereums, ” explained one of the CertiK spokesperson.
For its part, Qubit Finance managed to identify the attacker’s electronic wallet , thus confirming that the funds are still in the hacker’s possession. With the main objective of trying to recover them, they sent him a private message offering him the payment of a reward for having discovered this vulnerability.
Qubit Finance hopes to be able to recover the stolen money
Although this company communicated with the hacker privately, he did not reply to any messages. Faced with this situation, Qubit Finance published a message on Twitter asking the thief again to contact his team .
The message posted by Qubit Finance on Twitter reads as follows: “We suggest that you deal directly with us before taking any further action. The exploitation and loss of funds has a huge effect on thousands of people. If the maximum reward offer isn’t what you’re looking for, we’re open to negotiation. We want to find a solution.”
