The Realme Pad will not receive Android 12, only maintenance updates

Ranked as one of the best price/performance tablets on the market, the Realme Pad marked a triumphant entry for the brand into this niche. However, a few months later it seems to be revealed that not all that glitters is gold, because the Realme Pad will not be updated to Android 12 and that is a real problem.

Only security and performance updates, the Realme Pad will die with Android 11

The Realme Pad officially debuted with Android 11 on board, so users expected (at least) an update to Android 12. However, new information suggests that this will not happen.

The news was made known thanks to a Frequently Asked Questions and Answers (FAQ) post featured on the official Realme community . According to the post, the Realme Pad will not receive Android 12 and the brand will only release security and performance updates during its life cycle.

This is quite a serious problem, as Realme would set a precedent where it practically abandons a device like nothing happened. In addition, the company did not specify how long the life cycle will last, so it could be 2 years, 1 or just a few more months.

Compared to the competition, it is normal for big brands to release at least one Android update for their tablets. This is what Lenovo does, while HMD Global (Nokia) and Samsung promise up to 2 Android updates (even on cheap tablets) as well as 3-4 years of maintenance updates.

A bad move by Realme? Definitely, because setting such a strong precedent can affect its growth in the niche of tablets. Besides, the company offers 2 Android updates for its mobiles, so why not do it with its tablets as well? Especially with the Realme Pad, which is the first and marks its cornerstone in that market.
