SkyShowtime will arrive in Spain: another alternative to Netflix

The next big streaming platform will be SkyShowtime , whose premiere in Spain had already been planned for months. This rival for Netflix, Disney + and HBO Max now specifies its plans for Spain and the rest of Europe a little more.

SkyShowtime will have its launch at the end of 2022 , that is, fulfilling its previous announcement of opening its service throughout this year. It has not given a specific date, but it has confirmed that it already has the approval of the European regulatory bodies to work on the continent.

It is a new service that has been conceived for Europe, since its managers already have a presence in the US, Latin America and the United Kingdom. On the other hand, in our continent they have not achieved much success, in fact, Sky TV closed in 2022 in Spain as it barely got subscribers.

SkyShowtime is unlikely to compete with giants like Netflix, but it will probably take over smaller platforms like Starzplay or Fubo TV because they have so many top-tier series, movies, and shows, including exclusives.

SkyShowtime brings together content from the Comcast and ViacomCBS groups , which in some cases have their own platforms in the United States. On the other hand, it would be difficult for them to succeed on their own in Spain, so they come together in a pack.

These are the contents that we can see the SkyShowtime:

  1. peacock.
  2. UniversalPictures.
  3. Paramount Pictures.
  4. Paramount+.
  5. Sky Studios.
  6. NBCUniversal.
  7. Showtime.
  8. Nickelodeon.

Popular SkyShowtime franchises include series like Californication, Weeds, Penny Dreadful or Dexter , as well as well-known children’s productions like Peppa Pig or SpongeBob SquarePants .

There is no shortage of many top-tier movie franchises: Mission Impossible, Jurassic Park, Fast & Furious, Terminator, Star Trek and scores of classics from across the ages, some of which are currently available on other services.

Unfortunately, neither the catalog nor the price of SkyShowtime have been confirmed , something that we will know closer to the launch. Yes, more than 10,000 hours of content have been promised, including local productions.

These are the countries that will have SkyShowtime in 2022 during its initial launch:

Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, and Sweden.

We will have to keep an eye on whether the price of SkyShowtime will be competitive , because there is no shortage of rivals. Not just among paid subscriptions, as free channels on Pluto TV and other ad-based platforms are becoming more and more popular.
