Save gasoline thanks to your mobile and the new Google Maps function

Google Maps has just launched a very interesting function in Spain. It arrives at one of the best times, as it is a measure to save gasoline on your trips. With fuel at record prices, the new Google Maps option is welcomed with open arms. Thanks to the increasing data that Google has about our orography and roads, it has achieved a new filter for routes by car or motorcycle.

Until now Google Maps allowed you to save money on tolls and also indicating the fastest route. Now give it a twist by adding the most efficient routes to the equation.

Efficient routes on Google Maps: how they work

The feature is currently rolling out and may arrive on your device in the next few days. We recommend updating Google Maps if you haven’t already. The new efficient routes represent an important change and help for users and the planet.

In order for Maps to show you these routes, you need to indicate what fuel your car uses , whether it is electric or hybrid. Once you do and select a route, Google will search for an alternative and more efficient route than the standard one. Whenever possible, of course.

It will prioritize fuel savings before travel time and will indicate how much you have saved compared to the extra time it will take to complete the route. The example that Google has put indicates a saving of 26% of fuel with an extra 9 minutes on the route.

How do you come to this conclusion? Google has more and more data about our orography and routes, so it can determine fuel consumption and savings using a route with less unevenness or more highway.

The efficient route will be marked with a leaf and will not always be available. It is possible that there is no better alternative on the route you have selected, so in that case it will not show it. When it is possible, you will have the option to select it knowing how much gasoline you will save and how much extra time it will take to get there . Are you going to use these routes?
