Samsung wants to repair your phone with recycled parts, but that's not bad

Since the launch of the “Galaxy for the Planet” project in 2021, Samsung has made numerous changes to its policies. The last of them has to do with the smartphones that arrive at its technical service, since Samsung will begin to repair mobiles with recycled materials soon.

Samsung will use certified recycled parts and guarantee their operation as if they were new

Although the sales of the Galaxy S22 and the launch of the Exynos 2200 did not turn out as expected, Samsung is a giant that does not stop in order to maintain its market share. Part of this is evident in its effort to be a “greener” and more environmentally friendly company , a trend that many users (and their pockets) appreciate.

The latest movement in this regard is related to the fact that Samsung is considering opening a program in which they will use recycled parts to repair mobile phones . The project would come into effect sometime before we hit the middle of 2022 and Samsung-certified parts would be used. What does this mean? That the company will guarantee that the parts to be used will have a performance and quality very similar to that of a new part, even if they are recycled.

The objective of this program would point to two bands: reduce the cost that consumers make when repairing their mobiles and reduce the environmental impact of the company by using fewer new parts. On the first, Samsung estimates that, for example, the price of repair / replacement of a screen could be reduced by half.

Currently, this process represents an investment of 100,000 to 200,000 South Korean won for users (between 75 and 150 euros in exchange). If the estimate is true, users would now pay a maximum of €75 to change their panels for a recycled (but functional) one.

What changes has Samsung made since the launch of “Galaxy for the Planet”?

galaxy for the planet

As we mentioned at the beginning, the “Galaxy for the planet” program was introduced by Samsung in 2021 as an initiative for the company to reduce its environmental impact. To do this, they have made different changes during the last year , and it is expected that they will do more in the coming ones. Some of them are:

  • The alliance with iFixit so you can repair your Samsung device at home.
  • The extension of support, because now Samsung will update Android for 4 years.
  • The use of recycled plastics from fishing nets in their Galaxy S22.
  • Use recycled parts to repair smartphones (this news).

As you can see, they are very good initiatives and almost all of them have a direct impact that benefits users. Will there be other changes coming soon? Surely yes, although we may have skipped some that we still do not know.
