Orange and MásMóvil merge in Spain

Orange y MasMovil se fusionan en Espana

After rumors were released indicating the merger between two mobile phone companies , there were many conjectures that put Vodafone + Orange or MásMóvil + Vodafone as the possible companies that were going to merge.

Finally, and after a long wait, the union between Orange and MásMóvil has been officially announced , companies that will begin to take their first steps together in a very short time.

A merger that increases the weight of both companies

Orange y MasMovil se unen

As reported by Orange in its official statement, the merger between these companies would unite the services for some 7.1 million fixed line customers, 20 million mobile phone customers and almost 2 million cable television customers.

In addition, this merger would mean savings in operating costs for both companies , something like 450 million euros in just three years.

Changes at the executive level and other details

MasMovil y Orange fusion

With the merger of both companies almost completed, everything points to the new delegate of the resulting company being Meinrad Spenger, who is occupying said position in MásMóvil.

On the other hand, both Orange and MásMóvil must come up with a “new” name for the merger in question to be valid. According to rumors that have been released in recent hours, the name of this merger would result in the following : Orange MásMóvil.

What does the merger of these two companies mean?

Mayor cobertura redes 4G y 5G

If you are a customer of MásMóvil or Orange, you should not worry too much about this merger , because your landline, mobile or cable television plan should not have any type of increase in terms of cost.

What’s more, you will benefit , since the union of two companies of this style will mean better coverage for 4G/5G networks (both companies will share antennas).

On the other hand, a point against that we can find in this merger is the “monopolization” of mobile networks. When there are several companies that provide the same service, the user can choose one or the other without too many worries.

But, when there are only 2 or 3 major companies in the country that provide the same service , the options are reduced, and that means that the user does not have as much decision-making power as he thinks.

Have Vodafone and Telefónica been left out of the game?

Telefonica y Vodafone

Although Vodafone had the intention of merging with MásMóvil, it has not managed to attract the attention of the directors of this company, so it will have to continue “subsisting” independently.

Another company that also wanted to merge with MásMóvil was Telefónica . Seeing that said merger was not going to be carried out, they decided to bet on the future, in what way? Well, teaming up with Meta to explore the metaverse together.
