Goodbye to Twitter on this iPhone model

We get the bad news that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are no longer compatible with the Twitter app , as the social network has abandoned support for iOS 12. Those who still have an iPhone 6 will only be able to use Twitter through the browser mobile website.

Since the iPhone 6s were released in late 2014 , Twitter has really given them wide support. Or rather Apple, which has been releasing software updates for all these years, until a few months ago.

The iPhone 6 will not receive iOS 15, but will stay on iOS 12 . It really has been a lot of updates, because the phone came out with iOS 8, and it stopped selling just 2 years after launch. Of course, it was an important model, because for the first time there was a “standard” version and a larger Plus variant.

Twitter’s decision makes sense, as app developers try to focus on as few operating system versions as possible. On Android this is complicated, but Apple’s good update policy makes it easy.

Given the long life of the iPhone 6, it stands to reason that Twitter will shelve the app for iOS 12 , and devote all of its resources to optimizing it for the latest version.

We have several iPhone models to buy in 2022, some relatively affordable, if we want to continue using the Twitter app. We can also enter from a web browser, either Safari, which comes pre-installed, or another that we download through the App Store.

Little by little , app developers will stop supporting the iPhone 6 , limiting its possibilities. Of course, WhatsApp only requires iOS 10 to work, so it does not seem that it will leave the owners of an iPhone 6 aside in the short term.

The iPhone SE 3 (2022) was recently launched as the brand’s cheapest model, and may represent an alternative for those who miss Twitter support on their iPhone 6.
