FIFA + is the future "Netflix of football", and already offers thousands of free games

The new FIFA+ is a streaming platform dedicated to football , which promises us thousands of matches and programs related to the world of football. FIFA+ is completely free, available on the web, Android and iOS for any user.

FIFA+ comes just a few days after LaLiga Pass, as a new sign that football rights owners increasingly want to do without televisions and other intermediaries.

At the moment, this “Netflix of soccer” is not going to offer major league matches , something logical since it is free. We will not have LaLiga (Spanish First Division), nor the Premier, Bundesliga, Series A or Ligue 1, nor the Argentine First Division or the Brazilian Series A.

It does offer thousands of live matches from smaller European and international competitions, with an average of 1,400 matches per month . Of the 40,000 matches planned for 2022, around 11,000 will be women’s football.

Nor will there be a lack of content such as documentaries, news, archives of great historical moments and even interactive tests that put our football knowledge to the test.

FIFA+, how it works

FIFA+ is a streaming service on demand , that is, we freely choose what content to watch at any given time. Logically, the matches broadcast live are designed to be seen at that moment, something that differentiates it from platforms such as Netflix.

Apart from being free, FIFA+ does not require registration to start watching content , something that we have already seen in services like Pluto TV. In any case, if we are regulars it will be a good idea to create an account so that what we have already seen is saved.

Of course, FIFA + is financed through advertising, so we will see ads before starting the videos , without for now there being a premium subscription that allows them to be removed.

Not all content is video in FIFA+, for example, the news section is based on text articles , while in the Match Central tab we will see tables with data on upcoming matches , with options to filter those that interest us.

At first, FIFA + starts with five different languages: Spanish, English, French, German and Portuguese , promising that by June 2022 the eleven languages will be reached.

FIFA+, catalog and matches included

Although the major European and Latin American leagues are missing, the truth is that FIFA+ starts with a lot of content and a wide variety to enjoy football. These are the main elements of the platform:

  1. Thousands of live matches from 100 federations, from youth, men’s and women’s leagues.
  2. FIFA+ archive with 2,000 hours of World Cup matches since 1950.
  3. Text articles with football news.
  4. Match Central with news, football data, contests, voting and more.
  5. FIFA+ Originals, with series and documentaries.

The Trivia section is striking, with questions about the history of football , especially the World Cup, in an interactive format.

On the other hand, FIFA + offers its own content related to football , especially documentaries that deal with well-known players or some specific facet of this sport.

These are the first original FIFA+ programs that we have available:

  1. Ronaldinho: The Happiest Man in the World – a documentary about the life of Ronaldinho.
  2. Captains: Season 1 – the show follows 6 captains preparing for the World Cup in Qatar.
  3. Croatia: Defining a Nation – about how football helped bring Croatia together as a country.
  4. HD Cutz – a series with Sheldon Edwards, barber of many great footballers.
  5. Dani Crazy Dream – retrace Dani Alves’ path to the World Cup in Qatar.
  6. Golden Boot – collects interviews with the best scorers in the World Cup.
  7. Icons – docuseries about five of the best female soccer players in the world.
  8. Academies – is about the quarries where the big stars are formed.

How to watch FIFA+ on apps and TV

At the moment, FIFA+ can be seen on its apps for Android or iOS, and on web browsers , with a design adapted to computers, mobile phones, tablets and televisions. More applications are missing, but the company is already working on covering other platforms.

Therefore, there are no apps for smart TV at the moment , and we have to resort to other alternatives to watch FIFA + on a television. If we have a smart television or a video console, it is possible to access the FIFA+ website from its integrated browser.

Through a Chromecast, it is possible to send content to the television in a simple way . Otherwise, there are other options to connect the television to the Internet if you do not have WiFi, to watch FIFA +, and also Netflix, HBO Max or Disney +, among others.

If we have a laptop we can use an HDMI cable to send the image to the TV , it is not the most elegant system, but it works and HDMI cables are cheap.

Of course, the FIFA+ streaming platform is an important step , since it dispenses with televisions and operators to broadcast football. It will be necessary to see if it remains free in the future, or adds major league games in exchange for a monthly fee.
