Chromecast HD with Google TV may be the "affordable" version, but it won't be competitively priced

el chromecast HD con Google TV no será tan barato

The launch of new Google devices is getting closer every day. On October 6, the new Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, as well as a host of other devices, will be unveiled at the “Made by Google” event. Among them is very likely to be the new affordable version of Chromecast with Google TV, the company’s official dongle to easily turn your TV into a Smart TV.

We still don’t know all its details, but we do know that it will be a version with Full HD resolution (1080p) and aesthetically identical to the standard version (4K). Now, a new leak reveals the price of the cheap Chromecast with Google TV and the truth is that it is disappointing.

The Chromecast HD with Google TV will be a few euros cheaper than the 4K model, really few

Since its existence was confirmed, many media (Androidphoria included) have been following the Chromecast HD with Google TV, the economic version of this device. The reason behind this is that everyone expected it to be very competitively priced to go up against other dongles like Amazon Fire TV or Roku TV. Yes, there are very cheap TV Boxes and sticks with built-in Google TV, such as the Realme Stick 4K, but we all want to see Google’s official bet.

However, it seems that this wish will not be fulfilled soon, because the new Chromecast HD with Google TV will not be as cheap as expected. A leak suggests that it will cost $39.99 in the US, just $10 less than the standard Google TV Chromecast with 4K streaming. That would be the official price for the United States, but it will probably be much higher in Spain. How do we know? Because the standard model with 4K officially costs €69.99 in our country .

If this leak is true, the Chromecast HD with Google TV will be a device that will have a hard time competing in the market for Smart TV dongles. First, because its main rivals are cheaper; second, because a mere $10 gap from the 4K model makes it unattractive, even though most of the functionality and the voice-enabled controller will remain.

Even so, between now and the presentation, Google could change its mind and launch its basic Chromecast for a more competitive price. That, or the rumor may end up being false and it will really be cheaper. We will have to wait until October 6 to find out, because many retailers already have this device in their stores ready to sell, so the launch should be just around the corner.

What price would you think is fair for the Chromecast HD with Google TV? €30? Maybe €25? We are waiting for you in the comment box.
